Better known in Singapore as a war heroine, Mrs Elizabeth Choy and her husband were jailed and tortured by the Japanese Military Administration Department for helping to pass food, medicine and messages to British prisoners of war during the Japanese Occupation. Her psychological resilience helped her to endure the interrogations by her Japanese captors. After the war, Mrs Choy was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of her valour during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore.
In her reflection on the lessons learnt from the war, she said, “My values are quite changed. I am no more materialistic, even to this day. Never mind if I have no mansion, no diamonds... still I’m happy.”
Mrs Elizabeth Choy also made history by becoming Singapore's first woman in the Legislative Council in 1951. She entered the political arena in 1950 when she contested unsuccessfully at the Municipal Elections as an Independent candidate. On recounting how she got into politics, she said, “I was persuaded by a very prominent Singaporean by the name of V P Mendis to stand for this election... He told me Singapore was an emerging country working towards self-rule and independence. And he said with my experience I must help to promote the political growth of Singapore. I was reluctant. But after much persuasion, I agreed to stand as an Independent candidate in the Cairnhill constituency."
Foremost, Mrs Elizabeth Choy was a natural and dedicated educator for 40 years. She started teaching first at St. Margaret's School and later St. Andrew's School; and was the first principal of the Singapore School for the Blind in 1956. For her years of service in education, she was awarded the Long Service Award by the Singapore Government in 1973. She retired at St. Andrew's in 1974.

Elizabeth Choy
Elizabeth Choy, who died on September 14 aged 95,
risked her life supplying medicine, money and messages to
British civilians interned in Singapore's Changi Jail during
the Second World War.
She and her husband, Choy Khun Heng, who were running
a canteen, incurred further risk by sending in radio parts
for hidden receivers on a daily ambulance run until the
Japanese instituted a crackdown after a British-Australian
commando raid sank seven Japanese ships outside the harbour
in September 1943.

Self Reflection
Well,I have learnt alot through group work,I think we did not put in enough group effort to make the blog a better one.But I'm sure we can organise our blog better due to this mistake.
I'm sure all in the group realise it too. I learnt that team effort for any project is important and we cannot wait till the next day to post or do something which is supposed to be done today.
I hope that we can come together and discuss our project together on a day where everybody is free and we can sit comfortably at the library or even StarBucks to discuss while having a drink.

Self Reflection
Actually, to update the blog and all sort of things needed alot of time and effort. However, i realised that not all of the post is our effort. Some of the post is actually just copy and paste.Although, some effort was put in to search the data, we are not putting any effort in reforming the work.
To go so far, many things have happen. There are problem like, incooperative member unwilling to work, unable to find the data we like. Many of the problem are still remain unsolved. This blog are all in mess as there are mostly posting that are last minute work.
Receiving the marks that we receive, i don think i am delighted. Some group member might agree to this. To get better marks, lets all work hard.

My self reflection...
We have come across so many weeks and months together and it is time to think and see what have we done so far in the pass weeks. As far as my memories can take me, at first when we started this blog we seldom visited it and posted on it.
Now everything has changed we started posting regularly it is all thanks to our leader Leonda. She is the one who organised us and told us what to do. I am not exaggerating.
We have progressed alot and we must keep progressing. We have got our mark, but I don't think we are satisfied. To improve on it I think we have to post and comment regularly.I think it will be great if everyone can post thrice a week.
It is not about posting that bothers me, just that we must edit the text before we write it in the blog.
That's it members, hope it helps.

Back to work~
Well, the exams are over and I am rather disappointed with the marks we get for English project work...^^Thanks for everyone's contribution!I think our progress is like !@#$%^&*!@#$%^& and we could do better, right? This time,we will have to work hard on presenting our work in the most orderly manner ever(which I really hate because I don't like to show my face)...We can take a break now from our hectic lives but, work will resume from Term 3 onwards!I hope everyone will be well-prepared...Someone should tell Wan Qi what she needs to do.She don't have a computer, she can go library to research. It doesn't necessary need a computer to start work. This time, everyone must really contribute so that we can get higher grades for English in July(or my mother will erupt)...
Work hard,play hard^^
Work hard,play hard^^
Reflection On Our Work: April
I find that our blog postings lacked of quality but instead posted quantity work. I know that many of our work are simply just copy-and-paste. We lacked of time because we do not manage our time well due to poor scheduling.
I think we should improve our presentation even more to acheive standard rubrics to gain marks for our July test.
I know that Wan Qi is trying her best to put in effort but I think she is not doing enough. I hope that she will contribute more to our team and make our presentation a successful one. If she wants to stay in our group, I need her to make the effort in doing her role as what we tasked her is simple. We did not give her a hard time and Joyce acts as a coach to give her the understanding. I thanked Joyce for the effort in doing so.
As for Rebecca and Mei Peng, they did their roles well and I thanked them very much so for their blogs' posts and comments made to our recent posts. They spoke what was on their mind and explained clearly what amendments we shoud make.
Leonda is a very good leader, she will always ask us if we were able to handle our roles well. I do not have any qualms about her leadership.
There were parts where we have conflicts though, but through good communication, we were able to solve it.
It has been a hardworking April month for us, but I am glad that through our effort, we are able to just pass.
I hope that we are able to do our presentation on 'PERSPECTIVE OF ELIZABETH CHOY' well with no more complaints and arguments. This is important for me and the whole team to be able to pass English and History.
To my group members: ' PLAY HARD, WORK SMART AND GOD BLESS!'
